| Howard Stern's public journey |
It seems that he has identified a significant problem in the country, as well as his participation in it, and has reached a crossroads: Howard Stern no longer wants to be a homophobe. That is to say, he wants, no longer, to be connected to anything that could even remotely be construed as participation in homophobia, such as the use of the words "fag" or "faggot."
It is an interesting and rare opportunity to witness someone struggle with their convictions and ultimately decide to move toward leaving behind long-held beliefs for the greater moral good. Stern speaks with such sincerity that it's hard to dismiss this as entertainment. It is an act of tremendous courage. It is an act of contrition.
I think Eastern philosophies call it Enlightenment.
